Placing a sportsbet is a game of skill. The challenge is to gather and analyze as much information as you can about a game, weigh the probabilities of each team winning, and subsequently compare your opinion to the oddsmaker's.
While luck may be a deciding factor in the outcome of any single game, and will inevitably go against the bettor on occasion, it will balance out in the long run.
Being a consistent winner in sports betting is not about luck but whether the bettor is prepared to invest the time and effort to become knowledgeable about the sports he bets on, whether he can weigh all the factors in a cool, objective fashion, and whether he adopts a consistent, disciplined, long-term approach to betting.
The bookmaker is simply a middle-man who operates on a small profit margin and, ideally likes to see half the money wagered on one team and half on the other, assuring a profit.
If too much of the money goes on one team, the bookmaker will move the line or point spread to encourage bets on the other team in an effort to balance his book. The person the bettor is attempting to beat is the oddsmaker, and the oddsmaker's views on each team's chances.
Just by flipping a coin, bettors will be right 50% of the time. At odds of 10/11, only 52.4% of the bettor's bets have to win for him to overcome the bookmaker's profit and break even, so he only needs a very small edge to become a winner.
So bettors must do their homework and bet selectively. 55% winning bets is definitely achievable and 60-65% is a realistic target. At those levels, the sports bettor will have an extremely profitable and enjoyable hobby.

Gateway fell silent under Denny Hamlin's surge as he crushed the competition to win the Enjoy Illinois 300 - claiming his fifth victory of the season and grabbing a decisive ticket to the Round of 12. From the pole, Hamlin dominated the day with multiple lead-changing moves and held off teammate Chase Briscoe by 1.62 seconds to seal a statement win for Joe Gibbs Racing-and Toyota's 200th Cup Series triumph. A playoff power move set in metal. Credits to the video owner.

The Green Bay Packers will host the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field on Thursday Night Football, September 11, for their Week 2 matchup of the 2025-26 NFL season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on Amazon Prime Video. Green Bay leads the all-time series 22-17-1, including a 13-5-1 home record. The Packers have also won six straight against Washington at Lambeau Field.
Both teams enter Week 2 with a 1-0 record.
The Packers are the favorites to win the game. Here are our latest odds:
Commanders Offense vs Packers Defense
The Commanders leaned heavily on the ground game in Week 1, rushing for 220 yards on 32 carries. Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt shined with 82 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Jayden Daniels added 68 rushing yards, continuing his reputation as a dual-threat QB. Daniels has already set a record for the most rushing yards (891) by a Washington quarterback in his first 17 games.
Green Bay's defense, however, is built to stop the run. The Packers held the Lions to just 46 rushing yards last week and currently rank 1st in rush defense and 6th overall in total defense. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper recorded a career-high 12 tackles, while Rashan Gary tallied 1.5 sacks to bring his career total to 40.5. New addition Micah Parsons also got a sack in limited snaps and is expected to play more in Week 2.
Packers Offense vs Commanders Defense
Quarterback Jordan Love was efficient and mistake-free in Week 1, completing 16 of 22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns with a passer rating of 128.6. Love has now thrown 195 consecutive passes without an interception in regular-season play. Running back Josh Jacobs extended his franchise-record streak with a touchdown in nine straight games, while tight end Tucker Kraft provided early scoring with a touchdown grab. Green Bay's offensive line held firm, not allowing a single sack.
Washington's defense is no pushover, ranking 5th overall and 1st in scoring defense. Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner continues to be the anchor, having logged 100+ tackles in 13 straight seasons. On offense, the Commanders added Deebo Samuel in the offseason, and he wasted no time making an impact with 77 receiving yards and a touchdown in Week 1. Wideout Terry McLaurin remains a steady force, aiming for his sixth straight 1,000-yard campaign.
This rivalry dates back to 1932, when Green Bay shut out Washington 21-0. They later met in the 1936 NFL Championship, where the Packers won 21-6. One of the most memorable clashes came in 1983, a Monday Night Football shootout where Green Bay edged Washington 48-47 in a game that featured 11 touchdowns.
Washington hasn't won at Lambeau Field since 1986, and their last road win over the Packers came in 1988 in Milwaukee. Their most recent trip to Green Bay was in 2021, a 24-10 Packers victory.
The Packers vs Commanders Week 2 game promises to be one of the most intriguing Thursday Night Football matchups of the season. Green Bay's dominant run defense and mistake-free quarterback play give them an edge at home. However, Washington's ground game and strong defensive core led by Bobby Wagner and Jayden Daniels' dual-threat ability could make this a nail-biter.
In the end, this matchup may come down to turnovers and control of the line of scrimmage. Expect a physical, tightly contested game under the primetime lights at historic Lambeau Field.
